FROM THE DESK OF
FATHER RICHARD
Dear
Parishioners,
This
weekend at all the Masses, we will welcome our new Associate Pastor, Father
Joseph Lee, C.P., and thank Father Peter Shin, C.P., who will shortly be
departing to take up a new assignment for his Religious Congregation, The
Passionists (C.P.) in Korea. He has kindly delayed his departure to be with
Father Joseph here while the parish is on Pilgrimage in Europe.
We
are indebted to the Congregation of the Passion (Korean Province) in missioning
a priest to this parish, while so short of priests for their many missions in
Asia.
This
Sunday, 29 August, we will have a pot-luck luncheon in the Parish Center at
12:30 PM where you will get the opportunity of saying good-bye to Father Peter
and welcoming Father Joseph.
We
thank Father Peter for his ministry among all of us and in a special way his
apostolate among our Korean families. His cheerful and generous manner has been
such a gift to all of us. His willingness to step in at the last moment to
assist in parish affairs was most welcome. We wish him a fruitful ministry with
his fellow Passionists in Korea, and wherever his Congregation eventually sends
him.
With
our fellow Korean Parishioners, we express our joy with the arrival of Father
Joseph and pray that he finds us a welcoming Parish, having left his family and
community in Korea to serve us.
The
Parish Pilgrimage to the Shrines of France and Spain begins on Saturday, 4
September and returns on Tuesday, 14 September. We will pray for all our
parishioners, especially at Paray-Le-Monial (where Jesus showed His
Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary) and at the Grotto at Lourdes (where Our
Blessed Lady appeared to St. Bernadette). As is customary, we will purchase a
large candle and carry it to the Grotto. We will light it for the intentions of
all our parishioners.
GOD
BLESS!
NOTE OF GRATITUDE:
Words cannot describe the gratitude we feel for the support of this Community of Faith. Your kind words, your generous gifts, and most of all, for your friendship, have meant so much to our family. Knowing that we have such a loving community behind us has made our burden much easier to bear. Thank you for your kindnesses during the passing of Ursula's Mother.
Ad majorem Dei Gloriam

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
"O Sacred Heart of Jesus, Savior of the world and source of all holiness, we ask You to implant in the hearts of young men and women in this parish, a call to serve You as priests or religious either for the Diocese or for Missionary work. VOCATION CROSS: ATTENTION NEW and OLD PARISHIONERS...
We are all aware of the need for many more vocations to the Priesthood. The Catholic Church is spreading fast over all the world and likewise in the Diocese of Austin. We are asking each family in our parish to take the Vocation Cross home with them for one week and during that week, to say the prayers for vocations that are on the base of the cross-holder. We have a cross for each of our four weekend Masses, so it is necessary to have one family per each weekend Mass. We ask that a family sign-up on the Vocation Cross List located on the bulletin board in the Church, for whatever date they choose. On that date, at the end of Mass, the family will be called up to receive the Cross, then take it home and return it the following weekend. Please take your turn to pray for Vocations in this manner. It will be a great day when a young man is ordained to the Priesthood at St. Paul Chong Hasang Parish.
Book of Remembrance
In case you have just joined this parish, we have a special Book of Remembrance containing the names of our Soldiers who have or are being deployed. We ask that you enter the Soldiers' names in it and at each Mass, it is brought forward at the Offertory of the Mass and placed in the Sanctuary.
PLEASE PRAY FOR AND PATRONIZE OUR BULLETIN SPONSORS
It is through their generosity that our bulletin is published without cost to the parish. THANK YOU, SPONSORS!!
PLEASE NOTE...
PAYMENTS TO OUR FAITH-OUR LEGACY must go through the Austin Diocese. Please continue to send payments directly to:

Habitat
for Humanity
The Fort
Hood Area Habitat for Humanity, an agency of the United Way,
is always looking for volunteers. You can help make a
contribution to our community and learn something about
home construction at the same time. No experience necessary.
If you haven’t been by the Habitat ReStore, located at 2601 Atkinson Ave, Killeen, in a while, you really should stop by. We’ve gotten in tons (and I do mean tons) of donated material from BMC West and from Fort Hood. For a couple of weeks you couldn’t even get a vehicle in our parking lot because we were just overwhelmed with material. We’ve got it fairly organized now, though we’ve still got some work to do on that, but at least we can get vehicles in and out of the gate now.
If you’re doing work on your home, workshop, garage, yard, etc… you really should come by and check it out. We’ve got just about anything you need for building or remodeling and our prices are the best for miles around.
Funds raised from the ReStore are used to help us in our effort to eliminate poverty housing.
The ReStore’s hours are Tuesday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm.

New Parishioners We welcome all the new parishioners who have recently joined this parish. As you know, every Catholic family must be registered in a parish of their choosing. The parish then assumes responsibility for that family in the administration of the Sacraments and the pastor becomes "their" priest. That is why we have to actually register before we can be classified as a member. We have these registration forms available in the church porch; please complete one and then hand it into the Office or give it to Father Richard. You will notice that in this church we try to have a sense of quietness before and after Holy Mass so as to give an opportunity for people to have a few moments of personal prayer. Then when we go outside we can talk and greet one another. You will also notice that during the Creed, we bow profoundly during the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man." When we come forward to receive Holy Communion, we also either genuflect or bow while the person before us is receiving the Host. Having received the host, we step aside for a moment before proceeding to receive the Precious Blood (where we do not make any bow or genuflection). The minister will hand us the chalice; take it firmly in both hands, taking your time before handing it back. If you are not receiving the Precious Blood, you proceed directly to your bench to kneel down, not genuflecting or bowing. We keep kneeling and praying until the Tabernacle door is closed after Communion. Whenever we enter or leave our bench, except at Communion time, we genuflect, or if unable to do this, we bow profoundly. Your responsibility is to support by prayer and involvement in parish activities, and by sharing your time, talent and treasure in a realistic and practical way. The days of just attending Sunday Mass and putting a few dollars in the basket are long gone. Many years ago, this parish decided to take their Catholic Life seriously, whereby each member would give some time each week in active participation in parish affairs as well as financially supporting the parish by using the weekly envelopes for parish expenses, and the Building Fund envelopes for paying off the Building Debts. It was agreed that the minimum amount given in the Collection basket in loose cash by an adult would be $5.00, $2.00 from teenagers and $1.00 from young children. This would, of course, not refer to families who use the weekly envelopes. |
|
|
A Special Book Our deceased parishioners will be remembered in a special book which will be perpetually kept in the Sanctuary of the Church. We will reserve these books for our parishioners who have died since the parish opened twelve years ago. If you have a family member whose name you wish inscribed in this book, please provide Name, Date of Birth, and Date of Death to Father Richard at your convenience. |
|
|
Liturgical Bowing At Mass When we recite the Creed at Mass, it is the proper liturgical gesture to make a profound bow while we recite the words "by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man." On Christmas Day and the Feast of the Annunciation, we genuflect. We also either genuflect or bow while the person before us is receiving the Host during Holy Communion, whether at Mass or during a Communion Service. |
