Part of the EMHC Ministry is visiting patients in the Seton Hospital (Harker Heights) with Communion. This takes place each day from 2 pm to 3:15 pm, 7 days a week. Please note the following points of contact:
Joan Vanderlaan is the POC for Seton Hospital (See schedule above).
Paul Neault is the POC for Rosewood. (Saturdays at 11 am; Service or Mass).
Chuck Schnapp is the POC for Indian Oaks. (Fridays at 10:15 am; Service or Mass)
Deacon Klaus is the POC for St. Paul. (See automated assignment system above).
Contact the POC before taking Communion to any of these locations. 

The candidate to become a Lay Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is selected from volunteers who are invited to attend classes for this ministry by our Pastor, Father Richard O'Rourke, MSC. 
Father Richard is the primary instructor for these classes which cover a wide range of topics including:

• Reverence concerning the Eucharist
• History of the Layperson distributing the Eucharist
• Responsibility for preparing the altar for Mass
• Care of the Sacred Vessels
• Distributing the Eucharist at Mass
• Taking the Eucharist to the Sick
• Taking Ashes to the Sick on Ash Wednesday
• Distribution of Ashes at the altar on Ash Wednesday
• Preparing a Sick Call kit
• Conducting Eucharistic Services upon the absence of the Priest
• Conducting Stations of the Cross during Lent
• Conducting a Eucharistic Service in connection with the Stations of the Cross
• Participating in the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

Lay persons completing the classes are commissioned as needed by the Pastor during the Sunday Mass at which they will usually minister. A Certificate of Authorization of an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is presented to the newly commissioned ministers. This authorization is generally for two to three years. At the end of that time the minister will undertake a different ministry, or may be given additional training.
